We want to make your shopping experience as painless as possible by providing all the information you’ll need.

For instance, you might be asking yourself what’s the difference between replacement windows and new construction windows? What are the best brands? How do I find the right installer in my area? It can be a lot to learn in a short amount of time. We’re here to help. Choose your replacement windows below, customize your project, and receive an instant price.

At Renoviso, we’re experts in home renovation projects, especially window replacements. You can customize your entire window project on our website, or give us a call at 617-848-9610 so our customer operations team can walk you through the process.

Replacement windows vs. new construction windows

So you might not be sure what the difference is between these two types of window projects. Replacements are installed into an existing window opening without disrupting the wall, trim or frame significantly. The project can be completed easily from within the home, without a need to cut into the wall. The window is measured by the installer to exact dimensions and an entire project can be finished in a few hours. Despite some rumors, you won’t lose noticeable glass space with replacements, which keeps your view of the outside unobstructed.

New construction windows are installed by exposing the framing of the wall and is a far more intrusive process. This could be during the actual new construction of a house or an addition or when a new window opening is being cut into an existing wall, or just at the discretion of a homeowner. New construction windows are also more expensive.

At Renoviso we specialize in replacement windows. Because these items are installed into the existing window frame, the installation process is easier and faster in most cases while not compromising on the aesthetics of your home or on energy efficiency. Most homeowners prefer this type of window project, too.

Reasons to replace your windows

There’s a long list of reasons you may be here shopping today. Here are some of the most common:

Reduce street noise. Planes flying overhead, neighbors yelling, and construction down the street should not disturb the residents of your home. A new set of windows will cut down on annoying outside noise, giving you peace and quiet.

Create more light. A dark home is a sad home. If your windows are caked in dirt and grime, or just not large enough to let in light, consider a set of replacements to brighten things up.

Energy-efficiency. Modern vinyl windows, and many other window types too, put a focus on energy-efficiency. This will not only keep your home more comfortable, but it will save you hundreds of dollars per year on your heating and cooling bills.

Security and function. If your window will not lock properly, that puts your family and valuables in danger. If your window will not tilt in for easy cleaning, that puts your back in danger. If your window will not shut with low effort on your part, that puts your sanity in danger.

Selling your home. If you’re looking for maximum value from your home upon resale, you may need a set of windows for the reasons listed above, plus the aesthetic benefits.

The windows replacement process

Renoviso - How to choose your window from Renoviso on Vimeo.

We encourage you to build your dream project on Renoviso.com. Here’s what you can expect from start to finish:

Step 1: Start by selecting either the brand you prefer, or the type of window.
Step 2: Customize your window completely. You have the ability to choose size, glass type, grid pattern, frame material color, hardware finish, and much more.
Step 3: When you’ve built your perfect window, submit your project.
Step 4: Renoviso will contact you to schedule a FREE, in-home consult to take measurements and help answer questions.
Step 5: Renoviso will order you custom-built windows and you’ll be scheduled for your installation.

  • Installation should take no more than 1 day for normal jobs.
  • We’ll take away your old windows and install your replacements, ensuring everything fits and functions as we intended.
  • The glass and working components (excluding any hidden components, such as sash weights) of your current windows are removed. The wooden window frame that holds the window remains in place. If necessary, minor repairs are made to strengthen the window frame to accept the replacement. Exterior window casing is then formed and installed to ensure a tight weather-resistant seal.
  • We’ll treat your home with respect - as if it were ours.

Step 6: Windows are installed and you can sleep easy knowing you got a great deal and best-in-class customer service from start to finish.

FAQ

How much glass area am I sacrificing by opting for a replacement?

The glass area loss is negligible. Often times it is half an inch or less. It will not make a noticeable difference to you or your guests.

Can I install them myself?

We highly advise against that. The margin for error is so small, that if a window is installed incorrectly, it will not function properly, maintain its energy-efficiency, and live up to its durability.

How much will a replacement window project cost?

This depends on a number of factors. What brand you choose, the glass glazing, the quality of the material, wood vs. vinyl vs. composite, and the total number of windows - among other things. The best part about Renoviso is we price the project for you immediately, so you know what to expect as you make your purchase decision.

What style of window is right for me?

We sell all different types of windows at Renoviso. You could replace your current window with a similar style, or do something completely different.

Does Renoviso offer financing on projects?

Yes! We offer different levels of financing for our projects. Whatever you choose, you won’t be obligated to pay for everything up front, which helps your wallet.

How do I prepare my house for installation?

Please remove your curtains, blinds, and/or window treatments. Please provide the installer with a clear path to the window by moving any personal items or furniture that is in front of the windows. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations from the walls close to the windows

Do I have to replace all my windows at once?

We recommend you replace all of your windows at the same time to maximize the energy savings and aesthetics. A mismatched window set looks odd and you won’t realize all the fringe benefits.

How much can I save by installing an Energy-Star rated or energy-efficient replacement windows?

This is difficult to pinpoint as many factors should be considered including where you live, how many windows you own, and how old your windows were. You should absolutely expect to see savings on your heating and cooling bills. Purchasing ENERGY STAR rated windows will show better results, too.
